I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. My research and teaching combine interests in international relations, comparative politics, and political methodology, along with subfield specialities in political violence (purges, coups, and civil war), authoritarian politics, civil-military relations, leadership and regime transitions, the link between domestic politics and foreign policy, and conflict resolution.
I am currently working on a book project exploring how and when autocratic leaders promote the consolidation of power by purging rival elites from the regime. This project was awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship (2022-2023).
